Before Summer Practice
- Examine the Summer Practice Website as early as you can, as much as you can.
- Read the Summer Practice Manual which can be reached from our SP website under the “Forms”. It will be helpful to decide whether the company will satisfy the requirements that you may answer the questions listed in the manual if you complete your internship in the company.
- Check the additional information related with paid insurance or SGK insurance paid by the school on our website.
- Find yourself a company for summer practice. You may
i. Check the list of companies contacted the department for summer practice students.
ii. Use your social skills, family, friends, and others to establish contacts.
iii.Examine the summer practice databases of earlier years. - Some companies request a document (letter) explaining the aim of the internship, minimum duration of the internship and stating that the insurance for the summer practice will be paid by METU. You can find the SP Application Letter on our website (see Documents/Forms tab). You need to fill out the signed letters with the required information.
- Some companies may request an internship agreement (sözleşme) form. If you need one, please visit the SP website. Under the Documents/Forms tab, you can find a sample agreement form. After you fill out the agreement, you need to leave the form to Undergraduate Secretary Office. You can pick up the signed form in a week.
- Make sure that you carefully read the instructions for the insurance on our SP website. Please apply for your SGK insurance on time.
- You are ready. Go and start your summer work.
During Summer Practice
- Do attend the work with full concentration, be vigilant and observe what is going on, try to participate. You will write a detailed report soon. Don't forget that you can work at the same place next year for salary.
- Regularly take notes to help you in writing the final report.
- Prepare draft version of your report while conducting your practice. (Be prepared that you need to upload your report as soon as the new semesters starts.)
- You also need to have the "SP Evaluation Form" and “Employer Survey” (see Documents tab in SP website) filled out and signed by your SP supervisor.
- Your SP supervisor can send the “SP Evaluation Form" and “Employer Survey” to the Department Undergraduate Student Affairs by email in pdf format (to “akaya@metu.edu.tr”). The document can be signed traditionally or digitally. It is also possible to send the document to the Student Affairs by post in a closed envelope.
- If you receive a payment during your SP, you need to fill in the "Paid SP form questionnaire" under the IE300/400 course at OCW. Download, print, and sign the Paid Summer Practice Form. Upload the scanned copy of the signed form (in pdf format) under the assignment "İşsizlik Fonu Katkısı Bilgi Formu (Paid SP Form)" at OCW.
- Upload the bank receipt (in pdf format) showing that you received payment from the company under the assignment at OCW "Stajda ücret ödendiğine dair banka dekontu (Bank receipt for paid SPs)".
After Summer Practice
- Prepare your report following the Summer Practice Manuel (see Documents tab in SP website).
- You need to register for IE 300, IE 400 during the registration period.
- SP reports will be collected via ODTUClass. The deadline will be announced via ODTUClass. This is a strict deadline, so please organize your time accordingly.
- The SP report should be prepared in pdf format.
- The faculty members evaluating the reports will be assigned. Remember that your reports will be checked for plagiarism and whether they are generated by AI tools before the reports are evaluated.
Evaluation Process
- Your SP report will be graded by the faculty members assigned to your report.
- In the last month of the semester: Reports that require corrections will be returned to the students.
- If your report is returned, you have 2-3 weeks to complete the requested corrections.
- When you are done with the corrections, return your report to the evaluating faculty via ODTUClass.
Notes
- Make sure that company you have decided for summer practice satisfies the requirements of the Department.
- Make sure that you have written the report professionally.
- You may be asked to make corrections on your report. Do the corrections as requested if there is a need.
- Finding a summer practice location is never easy. Try to look for a good one as early as you can!!!
